Vergennes Police Log: Police investigate email scam
VERGENNES — Vergennes police recently had a call reporting another incident of what they called an increasingly common email scam. A resident who did not fall for the scam on Sept. 16 reported receiving an email with a photo of his home and mailbox attached.
In the email, the sender claimed to also have compromising video and photos of the recipient and demanded $2,000 for not making the material public. Police said the caller ignored the email, but decided to report it. They also noted it is not difficult for spammers to use the internet to obtain pictures of homes, and police advise those who receive such emails to delete them and block the senders.
In other actions between Sept. 16 and 22, Vergennes police conducted four patrols by cruiser and three on foot, and three traffic stops; processed seven preemployment fingerprint requests; conducted a VIN inspection; responded to a false alarm; and also:
