Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for retail theft in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Anthony Daisey Jr., 34, of Alburgh for retail theft from Hannaford Supermarket and TJ Maxx, providing false information to police, and possession of cocaine following an investigation in the Court Street area on Sept. 6.

Daisey was lodged due to two warrants for his arrest, according to police.

In addition to conducting daily foot patrols in downtown to monitor members of the local houseless community, Middlebury police last week:

  • Investigated a domestic dispute on Court Street on Sept. 2.
  • Investigated a two-vehicle crash with suspected minor injuries on Court Street Extension on Sept. 2.
  • Responded to the Bakery Lane area on a report of a person injured during an alleged assault on Sept. 2.
  • Responded with Middlebury Regional EMS to a report of a suicidal man in the Bakery Lane area on Sept. 3. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital.
  • Were informed that multiple cellphones were stolen from a building in Catamount Park on Sept. 3.
  • Helped a person who was experiencing a mental health crisis in the Bakery Lane area on Sept. 3.
  • Responded to Bakery Lane on Sept. 3 following multiple reports of loud arguing and fighting.
  • Cited Timothy Edwards, 36, who is houseless, for disorderly conduct, following investigation of a fight under the Cross Street Bridge on Sept. 4.
  • Helped an Exchange Street business owner with a “confrontational” man on Sept. 4.
  • Investigated reports on Sept. 3 and 4 of a homeless encampment off Mary Hogan Drive. Police in both cases asked the occupants to leave the area.
  • Cited Henry S. Romp, 33, of Middlebury for driving with a criminally suspended license on Three Mile Bridge Road on Sept. 4. Police said this was the 11th time Romp has been arrested for criminal DLS this year.
  • Investigated a disorderly-conduct-by-phone complaint on Sept. 5.
  • Responded to a trespassing issue on Abbey Pond Road on Sept. 5.
  • Helped free a Walgreen’s Pharmacy customer who had accidentally become locked in the store after employees had closed for the night on Sept. 5.
  • Responded to Porter Hospital on Sept. 5 to deal with an unruly patient.
  • Investigated a report of an unwanted person waiting outside of a woman’s apartment in the John Graham Court complex on Sept. 6.
  • Checked on the welfare of a woman who had been sitting in her parked vehicle downtown for a lengthy period on Sept. 6.
  • Helped two local residents search for their missing dog on Sept. 6.
  • Received a report about a man allegedly touching a woman inappropriately in the Route 7 South area on Sept. 6. Police said the matter is under investigation.
  • Helped Counseling Service of Addison County officials with a patient-related issue on Court Street on Sept. 6.
  • Helped a local resident who had been the target of an online scam on Sept. 6.
  • Received a report of a Middlebury Union High School student who was allegedly threatened on Sept. 6.
  • Served a no-trespass order on a man who had allegedly been creating problems at a Main Street business on Sept. 6.
  • Responded to a report of “an ongoing fight involving several adults and dogs” at a pavilion off Mary Hogan Drive on Sept. 7.
  • Conducted a welfare check at a South Village Green apartment after receiving reports of children screaming.
  • Helped Porter Hospital staff with an unruly patient who had been experiencing a mental health crisis on Sept. 7.
  • Investigated a possible threat made to an Exchange Street business on Sept. 7. Police said they believe the matter has been resolved.
  • Responded to a report of a suspicious man in The Centre parking lot on Sept. 9.
  • Returned a lost dog to its owner on Sept. 8.
  • Assisted a local resident with a child custody issue on Sept. 8.
  • Responded to a report of a possible domestic assault off Court Street on Sept. 8. Police said it was a parent attempting to calm an out-of-control child.
  • Retrieved video of an alleged theft from the TJ Maxx store on Sept. 8.
  • Responded to a report of a man being harassed in the Abbey Pond Road area on Sept. 8.
  • Helped Vermont State Police find a missing plane in Ferrisburgh at around 11 p.m. on Sept. 8. Authorities found the wreckage of the four-seat, single-engine Piper aircraft, and recovered the bodies of four victims (see related story in the A section of this edition). The occupants of the plane had left the Basin Harbor Airport in Ferrisburgh at mid-day on Sunday and had been bound for Connecticut, according to police.
