Vergennes Police Log: Police come to the aid of trapped dog
VERGENNES — Vergennes police went a little bit out of their way on Aug. 23 to help a dog trapped in a crawl space under a Greenbush Road home in Ferrisburgh.
Police said the dog had fallen into the crawl space, and its owners could not retrieve it. Officers were able to detach an access panel and lift out the animal, according to their report.
In other incidents between Aug. 19 and 25, Vergennes police conducted three patrols, two in cruisers and one on foot, and 14 traffic stops; processed eight pre-employment fingerprint requests; dealt with two false alarms; and also:
On Aug. 21 following a neighbor’s complaint asked West Main Street residents to turn down loud music.
On Aug. 22:
• Checked the welfare of a Macdonough Drive resident, who was OK.
• Informed South Water Street neighbors involved in a dispute about their property lines that they were dealing with a civil issue.
• Calmed an argument between a Maple Manor resident and a Waltham man who had parked his car in the neighborhood in order to walk his dog in a safer area than the side of the road in his town. Police did suggest the Waltham resident find an area with better parking.
• Served a relief-from-abuse order to a Macdonough Drive resident.
• Following a complaint about a youth driving too fast along Bowman Road, spoke to his parents about the issue.
• Responded to a report of a disabled vehicle holding up Main Street traffic; it was gone when police arrived.
On Aug. 23:
• Contacted the owner of a vehicle parked on Park Street that was interfering with preparation for Vergennes Day; the owner moved it.
• Took a report that a woman believed she had left her wallet at Shaw’s Supermarket, and when she returned shortly after leaving to pick it up the wallet was gone.
On Aug. 24:
• Directed traffic around the Vergennes Day road race.
• Responded to a report of a simple assault on First Street, a case that remains under investigation.
On Aug. 25:
• On behalf of Vermont State Police attempted to contact the owner of a vehicle with a Vergennes registration that had been disabled and/or abandoned — possibly after an accident — at the bottom of a Bristol driveway.
• Checked out a report of someone walking around a home that was temporarily unoccupied.
