Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for aggravated assault
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Aug. 23 cited Timothy E. Edwards Jr. for aggravated assault and domestic assault, following an investigation near the intersection of Bakery Lane and Cross Street.
In addition to conducting daily foot patrols downtown to monitor members of the local houseless community, Middlebury police last week:
• Helped an Evergreen Lane resident evict a bat from her home on Aug. 19.
• Responded to a reported retail theft from the Jolley convenience store at 220 Court St. on Aug. 19.
• Responded to a reported dispute between two people under the Cross Street Bridge on Aug. 19.
• Served a no-trespass order on a woman who had allegedly shoplifted from a Court Street store on Aug. 19.
• Cited Henry S. Romp, 33, for driving with a criminally suspended license on Valley View Road on Aug. 19.
• Responded to the Bakery Lane area on Aug. 20 on a report that a man was allegedly threatening to kill others and himself.
• Received a report on Aug. 21 of an elderly East Middlebury resident who had allegedly been scammed. That matter is under investigation, along with a similar report involving a Lower Plains Road resident.
• Helped state police on a traffic stop on Route 30 in Whiting on Aug. 22.
• Checked on the welfare of an elderly person in the Fields Road area who had been experiencing a mental health crisis on Aug. 22.
• Checked on the welfare of an elderly person seen walking downtown on Aug. 22.
• Gave a courtesy ride on Aug. 23 to a Porter Hospital patient who had been discharged following treatment of injuries sustained in a car crash.
• Assisted state police with a dispute at Kampersville in Salisbury on Aug. 23.
• Investigated a report of someone allegedly threatening Walgreens Pharmacy staff on Aug. 23.
• Cited Patrick Carlisle, 21, of St. Albans for allegedly violating a temporary restraining order in the South Village Green area on Aug. 23.
• Spoke with a local resident regarding a bank fraud allegation on Aug. 23.
• Assisted an Exchange Street filling station in tracking down a customer who had not paid for their gas on Aug. 23.
• Removed a sick raccoon from South Main Street on Aug. 24. Police report that the animal had to be euthanized.
• Cited David Lewis, 48, of Jeffersonville for driving under the influence, after investigating a report of a person allegedly refusing to leave a Court Street business at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Police said Lewis declined to submit to a breath test and was subsequently taken to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland to receive detox services.
• Investigated an alleged domestic disturbance at a Case Street residence on Aug. 25.
• Helped a woman who was experiencing a mental health crisis on Aug. 25.
• On Aug. 25, checked on the welfare of a person who has been living inside their vehicle parked off Washington Street.
• Investigated a report on Aug. 25 of a person who’s had been making repeated calls to emergency services providers.
• Responded on Aug. 25 to a report of an “upset person” who was refusing to leave a Court Street business.
• Assisted Vermont State Police with a domestic dispute at a Cornwall home off Route 30 on Aug. 25.
• Checked on the welfare of a woman who was experiencing a mental health crisis in the Washington Street area at around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 26.
• Gave a ride to a discharged patient at Porter Hospital at around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 26.
