Vergennes Police Log: Police called to two separate couple disputes
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Police Department has been working hard to keep city streets safe during the month of August.
Between Aug. 5 and 18, city police officers conducted 43 traffic stops, with roughly half of those stops resulting in tickets, the other half in warnings.
During those two weeks, Vergennes police also conducted 25 patrols, 22 in cruisers and three on foot, and four VIN inspections; honored 17 fingerprint requests, and:
On Aug. 5, calmed a divorced couple who began arguing while transferring children from one to the other in the police station parking lot. Police said separated couples often agree to make such exchanges at the police station.
On Aug. 6, were told by a Walker Avenue resident she’d heard a gunshot, but determined the report was unfounded.
On Aug. 7:
- Heard the first of two complaints from a Bowman Road resident of a vehicle speeding on the road; police said they’d step up patrols in the area.

Police contacted the woman and told her to drive off and reached the man and told him she had the jointly owned car, and told both needed to work things out peacefully.
- Dealt with a minor two-car accident on Armory Lane.
- Served a relief from abuse order on a Second Street resident.
On Aug. 10:

Police and the resident’s bank determined the dealership transposed numbers in the Maine resident’s Social Security number, thus changing it to the city resident’s number and causing the transaction to show up on the Vergennes resident’s credit report. Police said the bank and dealership will iron out the mistake.
- Went along with the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad to check the welfare of a South Maple Street resident, who police said VARS took to the UVM Medical Center.
- Dealt with a minor two-car accident at the intersection of Green and School streets.
On Aug. 15, on behalf of the Counseling Service of Addison County, checked the welfare of a Main Street family that was found to be OK.
