Middlebury Police Log: Middlebury man cited for embezzlement

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Arron Giard, 23, of Middlebury for embezzlement on Aug. 4, stemming from an investigation into the alleged theft of funds from the Subway Restaurant on Court Street.

In addition to conducting daily foot patrols in the downtown to monitor members of the local houseless community, Middlebury police last week:

  • Checked on the welfare of a drunken person who was walking home via Route 7 and Exchange Street on July 29.
  • Spoke with a Jackson Lane resident on July 29 who said her front door had been vandalized by local children.
  • Responded to a report of a person demonstrating threatening behavior in the Bakery Lane area on July 29.
  • Advised a local woman on July 29 on how to get a protective order against a person who had allegedly been harassing and stalking her.
  • Arrested Cormick Cantwell, 41, of Middlebury on an outstanding arrest warrant on July 29.
  • Arrested Julio C. Ramos, 23, of Middlebury on an active arrest warrant on July 29.
  • Investigated a report of a dog in a hot vehicle parked off Court Street on July 29. Police said the car had left before they arrived.
  • Responded to a report of a man looking through mailboxes along Harrow Way on July 29.
  • Responded to a report of some people “attempting to light things on fire” in the Merchants Row area on July 30.
  • Investigated two separate stolen-vehicle reports filed by McGee Chevrolet on July 30. One of the vehicles was a maroon, 4-door 2016 Ram 1500, with a crew cab; and the other was a white, 4-door, 2014 Audi A4 2.0T Premium Plus Quattro sedan.
  • Assisted a Vermont game warden on a traffic stop near the intersection of South Street Extension and Morse Road on July 30.
  • Cited Henry Romp, 33, of Middlebury for driving with a criminally suspended license at the intersection of Route 7 and Rogers Road on July 30.
  • Served a local person with a temporary restraining order on July 30.
  • Investigated a report of a domestic assault at a John Graham Court residence on July 31. Police announced no citations in connection with the report.
  • Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS (MREMS) on a medical call to the Buttolph Drive area on July 31.
  • Conducted traffic control on East Main Street while a tree was removed from the road during the evening of July 31.
  • Warned a man about littering on Bakery Lane on July 31.
  • Responded to reports of “suspicious activity” on Route 7 and Boardman Street on July 31.
  • Found a man smoking marijuana in a vehicle parked off South Street on July 31.
  • Responded to a motorcycle crash, with injuries, on Route 7 North on Aug. 1.
  • Responded to a harassment complaint at a Woodbridge Lane residence on Aug. 1.
  • Investigated a report of two tents that had allegedly been set up in the Chipman Hill area on Aug. 1. Police said they found no tents in the area.
  • Served a no-trespass order on Aug. 1 on a person who wasn’t wanted at a Court Street business.
  • Spoke on Aug. 1 with a Maple Street resident who said people had been trespassing on her property.
  • Helped a person who was experiencing a mental health crisis in the Jayne Court area on Aug. 2.
  • Investigated a reported verbal altercation between a houseless person and a business owner near the intersection of Bakery Lane and Cross Street on Aug. 2.
  • Investigated a report of a local man receiving a threatening phone call on Aug. 2.
  • Responded to a reported argument between two men behind the Ilsley Library on Aug. 2.
  • Followed up on Aug. 2 on reports of speeding on Lower Plains Road.
  • Asked a man to leave a Merchants Row business on Aug. 2 after employees complained he was making them feel uncomfortable.
  • Received a report of some people allegedly using drugs in a car parked at a Route 7 South gas station on Aug. 2.
  • Advised a woman on Aug. 2 about how to obtain a protective order against a man she believed had been stalking her on the Abbey Pond Trail.
  • Investigated a domestic dispute at a John Graham Court residence on Aug. 2.
  • Warned some people to stop sleeping in the town gazebo after the town green was closed on Aug. 2.
  • Gave two stranded travelers a ride to their hotel on Aug. 3.
  • Responded on Aug. 3 with MREMS to a report of a drunken person in the Bakery Lane area.
  • Helped MREMS tend to a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis in the Abbey Pond Road area on Aug. 3.
  • Responded to a report of a dog left in a vehicle parked off Court Street during warm weather on Aug. 3.
  • Investigated a domestic dispute in the Washington Street area on Aug. 3.
  • Responded with MREMS to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle parked off Washington Street on Aug. 4.
  • Helped MREMS tend to a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis in the Abbey Pond Road area on Aug. 4.
  • Assisted Vermont Fish & Game officials who were trying to find a person in the North Street area on Aug. 4.
  • Received complaints on Aug. 4 about two unwanted campsites on private property off Maple Street. Police said the tents were removed by their owners.
  • Checked on the welfare of a person found sleeping in their vehicle parked off North Pleasant Street at around 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 4.
  • Helped a local woman search for a missing dog in the Creek Road area on Aug. 4.
  • Responded to a report of an out-of-control patient on Porter Medical Center campus on Aug. 5.
