Vergennes Police Log for Aug. 1
VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Sunday, July 28, cited a city resident for allegedly trying to extort money from a family member. Police allege Will Phillips, 27, concocted a story that he was in jeopardy and requested money to resolve the situation. They cited and released him.
Between July 22 and 28, Vergennes police also conducted 16 cruiser patrols, 11 traffic stops, one VIN inspection and one property watch; responded to a false alarm; processed six pre-employment fingerprint requests; and:
On July 22:
- At the station, discussed with the recent recipient of a no-trespass order, its circumstances.
- Heard a complaint from a West Main Street resident that a trash company had allowed litter to spill from a truck; the complainant said he had also spoken with the company.
- Took a call reporting hit-and-run damage to a vehicle.
On July 23 dealt with a report of a homeless person panhandling at the city pool by buying her a pizza and putting her in touch with helpful resources.
On July 24:
- Responded to Panton Road, where a vehicle had gone off the road.
- Took a call reporting hit-and-run damage to a vehicle parked on Main Street.
On July 25:
- At the station, served a relief-from-abuse order.
- Checked the welfare of a South Maple Street resident, who was found to be OK.
On July 26:
- Accepted a cell phone found by a citizen. Its owner picked it up this past weekend.
- Checked the welfare of a Hillside Acres apartment resident, who was found to be OK. Police described this as an ongoing issue.
On July 27:
- Accepted a credit card found by a citizen. As of Monday police had not found its owner.
- Took a complaint about construction noise at about 2:30 p.m. Police noted the property in question had a zoning permit.
- Were told a pickup truck was spinning in circles in the Big Barn Furniture parking lot; it was gone when police arrived.
On July 28 heard a complaint about possible theft of electric power on Main Street and determined it was a misunderstanding.
