MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police said they successfully obtained a court order on Thursday, Sept. 2, to seize the firearms from a local person in the Merchants Row area who had allegedly posted on social media about “committing a serial killing.”

Police said they referred the case to the Counseling Service of Addison County and the Vermont Department for Children and Families.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS on Aug. 30 with a woman on North Pleasant Street who had allegedly taken an illegal substance and then needed treatment at Porter Hospital.

•  Investigated a report on Aug. 30 about a man on Case Street who was holding up a sign stating he needed help. Police spoke with the man and determined he was actually looking for someone to buy him cigarettes and beer.

•  Assisted Vermont State Police with a drunken man on Route 116 in Bristol on Aug. 31.

•  Received a complaint from a Porter Medical Center client who said she believed she was “discriminated against” by a nurse because she was wearing a “blue lives matter” face covering while receiving treatment on Aug. 31. The complainant alleged the nurse asked her to remove the mask and was then “treated poorly” by the nurse. Police suggested the complainant contact Porter management about her experience.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local resident on the Pond Lane area on Aug. 31.

•  Responded to a reported dispute between Court Street Extension neighbors on Sept. 1.

•  Responded to a report of a drunken man who had allegedly been yelling at people and “barking at trees” in a parking lot off Macintyre Lane on Sept. 1. Police said someone showed up to give the man a ride.

•  Received a report on Sept. 1 that someone had allegedly run over a Schoolhouse Road resident’s lawn mower.

•  Received a report that a package had been stolen from outside of a Court Street residence on Sept. 2.

•  Checked the welfare of a person in the Cobble Road area on Sept. 2.

•  Were informed of the theft of a bag from a locker room at Middlebury Union High School on Sept. 2.

•  Investigated what police are terming “an incident” that occurred on a school bus at Middlebury Union Middle School on Sept. 2.

•  Received a report of one local juvenile allegedly being assaulted by another in the Court Street area on Sept. 3. The case remains under investigation, police said.

•  Helped a local agency in responding to a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis at a Route 7 South location on Sept. 3.

•  Heard allegations that someone had tampered with a breaker box on Case Street on Sept. 3.

•  Responded, with MREMS, to a report of a man falling off his bike and possibly injuring his head at the intersection of Court Street and Creek Road on Sept. 4.

•  Received a report of a local resident allegedly losing a “significant amount of money” to a scam on Sept. 4. Police said the case remains under investigation.

•  Responded to a complaint about a barking dog in the Springside Road area on Sept. 4.

•  Assisted MREMS with a man who was having trouble breathing at a Jackson Lane residence on Sept. 4.

•  Reunited a lost toddler with a parent at a Court Street apartment building on Sept. 4.

•  Cited John H. Torres, 21, of Ferrisburgh for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop on North Pleasant Street on Sept. 5. Police said they measured Torres’s blood-alcohol content at 0.175%, more than twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08%.
