BRISTOL — On July 8, with the help of the Vergennes Police Department, Bristol police cited Raymond White, 35, of Vergennes for criminal threatening and violation of conditions of release after an investigation determined White had left phone messages threatening a Bristol resident at the beginning of May.

White was ordered to appear in Addison County Criminal Court on July 19 to answer to the charges.

Between July 5 and 18 Bristol police completed 14 foot patrols, conducted seven car patrols, and checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School 14 times, at Bristol Elementary School 14 times, and at local businesses 14 times.

Police also completed at least three fingerprint requests, conducted one welfare check without incident, verified one vehicle identification number, helped four people get into their locked vehicles, and facilitated the return of one lost wallet, one unspecified item of lost property and one loose dog.

The department also assisted Vermont State Police once and Bristol Rescue twice.

In other recent activity, Bristol police:

•  On July 5 responded to a parking complaint on Lincoln Road and issued tickets to violators.

•  On July 5 responded to a motor vehicle complaint on South Street but the vehicle was gone before police arrived.

•  On July 5 directed traffic on West Street during the lowering on the large American flag, which was hung for Independence Day.

•  On July 5 helped someone contact social services.

•  On July 7 began investigating a report of theft on Liberty Street.

•  On July 7 responded to a trespass complaint on Liberty Street and will issue a notice against trespass.

•  On July 7 responded to a report of a bear on West Street. The bear moved along on its own.

•  On July 8 helped Middlebury police serve court paperwork to someone at Sycamore Park.

•  On July 9 responded to a report of suspicious activity and determined the people in question were waiting for a relative.

•  On July 12 responded to a parking complaint on Airport Drive and determined the vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues and would be repaired and removed as soon as practical.

•  On July 14 responded to a report of a dog left in a hot car on West Street, but the vehicle was gone before police arrived.

•  On July 14 cited a 19-year-old Bristol resident to appear in Addison County Family Court on Sept. 14 to answer the charge of embezzlement, an offense that was alleged to have been committee when the defendant was 18 and working at a Bristol business on West Street.

•  On July 15 received a delayed report of parking lot crash damage on Prince Lane and completed a report.

•  On July 16 directed traffic around a two-car crash at the intersection of Routes 116 and 17 until Vermont State Police and the Bristol Fire Department arrived.

•  On July 16 patrolled an event at the town park.

•  On July 17 transferred a handgun, held for safekeeping, to a federal firearms dealer for transfer to a new owner.

•  On July 17 began investigating a report of threatening activity on Plank Road.

•  On July 18 deployed traffic cones on Route 116 for a traffic hazard.
