Vermont soccer stars topple N.H.

HANOVER, N.H. – Addison County players and coaching helped the Vermont Twin-State senior all-star soccer teams sweep their New Hampshire counterparts in games played at Hanover High School on Saturday.
The Vermont girls scored twice in the second half in a 3-2 win over New Hampshire, and the Vermont boys outscored New Hampshire, 5-1, in the nightcap.
Two local standouts took the field for the Vermont girls, Vergennes Union High School midfielder Hannah Kelly and Mount Abraham defender Savannah Scrodin. Scrodin was credited with a key defensive play in the late going — clearing the ball off the goal line during a scramble to help preserve the Green Mountain team’s one-goal lead.
Middlebury Union High School’s Reeves Livesay served as head coach for the Vermont boys’ team.
Scoring for the Vermont girls were Hazen’s Macy Moeller, from an assist by U-32’s Caroline Kirby in the first half.
After New Hampshire tied the game early in the second half, Burlington’s Payton Karson and Mount Mansfield’s Willa Clark found the net for Vermont. Fair Haven’s Emma Ezzo (three saves in the first half) and Colchester’s Olivia Moore (six in the second) split time in the Vermont net. Champlain Valley’s Olivia Zubarik of CVU was named the team’s MVP.
In the boys’ game Vermont scored the final four goals after New Hampshire equalized early in the second half. Colchester’s Adolphe Alfani sparked Vermont with two goals and an assist and was named the team MVP, and Mount Mansfield’s Will Hauf also scored twice. A New Hampshire own goal helped Vermont seal the victory.
In goal, Stowe’s Isaiah Schaefer-Geiger stopped seven shots, and Peoples’ Dylan Haskins made five saves.
New Hampshire retained its lead in both all-time series — 19-14-5 on the girls’ side and 19-18-9 on the boys’ side.
