Vergennes Police Log for Jul. 15

VERGENNES — Vergennes police are investigating an allegation of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred this past Saturday, July 10.

City police said they are working with the Addison County Unit for Special Investigations on the case. They said they could not comment on the details, except that the case involves an alleged assault committed by a male city resident on a female visitor.

In other incidents between July 5 and 12, Vergennes police conducted nine patrols by cruiser and one on foot, helped one motorist get into a locked vehicle, responded to one false alarm and one inadvertent 911 call, inspected one VIN number, and:

On July 5:

•  Referred to a New York agency an allegation of internet extortion made by a client at the 1 Alden Place rehabilitation facility. Police said details of the case originated in New York.

•  Responded to a West Main Street residence after a mother complained her daughter slapped her. Police said they calmed the parties and suggested counseling by AgeWell, but that the mother declined to make a written statement to allow them to pursue a citation.

On July 7:

•  Were told by a third party that an altercation in the lobby of the Armory Lane affordable housing complex had damaged a door there. Police are working with the Addison County Community Trust to investigate the situation.

•  Dealt with a parking complaint from a South Water Street apartment building. Police could not reach the owner of a vehicle blocking its driveway and told the complainant it would be legal to have it towed.

•  Issued a relief-from-abuse order to a city resident.

On July 8 cited Raymond White, 35, of Vergennes for violating his conditions of release. Police said he left his home and went to a city business without the ordered supervision of a family member.

On July 9 looked into a report of boys urinating outside near the Hillside Acres apartment complex.

On July 10:

•  Responded to a report from Middlebury Regional Emergency Medical Service personnel of an elderly client threatening suicide. Police helped persuade the patient to accept counseling from the Counseling Service of Addison County and AgeWell.

•  Stopped a vehicle on Main Street after an erratic operation report and determined the driver was OK.

•  Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a Panton Road medical call.

•  Took a report of stolen change from a vehicle parked on Monkton Road. Police said another such report came in on Monday, and noted a third vehicle had been entered a week before. They advised owners of vehicles to be sure to lock them up.

On July 11 investigated a break-in at a Main Street office space that had happened sometime during the last day. Police said a window air conditioner had been pushed into the space to allow entry, and several items were taken, including DVDs and clothing, and another window was broken.
