AMY AUTUMN VACHON

VERGENNES/MIDDLEBURY — Amy Autumn Vachon died peacefully in her Vergennes home on July 4, 2021, following a brief struggle with cancer at age 43 under the loving care of her family, and dedicated nurses and a social worker from Addison County Home Health and Hospice. She was born on November 27, 1977, in Burlington.

Amy’s sweet smile, quiet strength and friendly manner endeared her to everyone. She was an excellent swimmer and nordic skier on the Addison County Special Olympics team. Amy loved her Church family at the Vergennes Congregational Church, her school teachers and sports coaches, as well as co-workers at USHIO/ Nathaniel Electronics in Vergennes, where she worked part-time for over 20 years. Amy built strong friendships with her housemates and the caring staff at her second home on Elm Street in Middlebury. She loved music of all kinds and was always first on and last off the dance floor, free as a bird. Amy enjoyed board games, especially UNO and SORRY, winning often with a sly smile.

Amy is survived by her loving parents, Paul and Cherie Vachon; her devoted sister Sabra Chiurri, brother-in-law Christopher Chiurri, nephew Maxwell and niece Ava, of Melrose, Massachusetts; her beloved maternal grandmother (Mimi) Lois Hellebuyck of Middlebury; and many caring uncles, aunts and cousins in Michigan, Colorado, Connecticut and Missouri.

Amy was pre-deceased by her grandparents of Essexville Mich.; including her maternal grandfather, Alphonse Hellebuyck, and her paternal grandparents Albert and Irene (Fortin) Vachon.

A service of remembrance of Amy’s life will be held on Friday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the Vergennes Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, condolences or memorial contributions may be sent to the Vachon home at 46 South Water St., Vergennes, VT 05491. Donations received in her memory will be used to benefit the residents of the Elm Street CSAC Women’s Group Home.
