Vergennes Police Log: Woman cited for DUI

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on May 10 cited a Waterbury woman for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense. Police issued the citation after being called to Alden Place by a Valley Vista employee who said there appeared to a person slumped over the wheel of a car at a nearby intersection.

Police cited Robin A. Farnsworth, 63, for DUI-alcohol 2 after she refused testing. Police allege when they found her in her vehicle Farnsworth was unable to get out of it under her own power. They then called the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, which took her to Porter Hospital.

Between May 10 and 16 Vergennes police also conducted eight patrols by cruiser and two on foot, performed one property watch and two VIN inspections, responded to a false alarm, and:

On May 10 calmed a dispute on Cataract Lane between a mother and daughter police said centered around the mother’s refusal to let a daughter’s friend stay at the home and on the possession of a cellphone. Police said the daughter smashed a door window with a baseball bat and had locked herself in a car when they arrived. Police arranged for the return of the phone, and said the daughter found another place to stay for the night.

On May 11:

•  Advised a Main Street tenant about the legalities involved in a dispute with a landlord.

•  Ticketed at truck driver for traveling 51 mph in a 30 mph zone on West Main Street.

On May 12 checked the welfare of a man’s children on South Maple Street after his ex-girlfriend did not respond to a text; police said the children were fine.

On May 13 began investigating the alleged theft by an Armory Lane resident’s daughter of $700 from her mother using a borrowed debit card. Police said they were told the amount of money withdrawn was unauthorized.

On May 14:

•  Directed traffic around a northbound truck struggling to climb the Main Street hill near the bridge.

•  Directed traffic for a well-attended funeral for VUHS grad and firefighter Kristina Oxholm.

•  Checked the welfare of a Walker Avenue resident who did not respond to a meal delivery. Police said the man told them he was napping and did not hear his visitor.

•  Looked for an alleged drunken driver leaving a Main Street store, but could not find him.

On May 15:

•  Could not find a southbound driver on Route 7 that according to Vermont State Police was operating erratically.

•  Called a Kennedy Brothers business owner to free a patron locked inside the business.

On May 16 took a report of a minor Main Street accident for insurance purposes.
