Vergennes Police Log: Drug Take Back Day was a success
VERGENNES — Vergennes police reported a successful National Prescription Drug Take Back Day effort on Saturday, April 24.
According to Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel area residents on that day turned in 30 pounds of unused or expired prescription medications to the department’s Main Street station.
In other action between April 19 and 25, Vergennes police conducted a dozen cruiser and three foot patrols and three VIN inspections; took one set of pre-employment fingerprints; and also:
On April 20:
• Provided incident reports to the Addison County Community Trust.
• Participated in the filming of a recruitment video for the Vermont Office of Highway Safety.
• Went to First Street to calm a dispute between a mother and daughter over the ownership of a dog.
• Disposed of a small amount of white powder found in a Champlain Farms restroom.
On April 21:
• Helped Vermont State Police by responding to a false alarm at a Diamond Lane home in Ferrisburgh.
• Dealt with a minor one-car accident in the Kinney Drug Store parking lot.
• Helped calm a First Street resident undergoing mental stress.
On April 22:
• Hosted a Project North Vision meeting involving Vergennes and Bristol issues.
• Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a School Street residence.
On April 23:
• Responded to a parking problem near the MacIntosh Park bike trails on Comfort Hill.
• Participated in a drive-by parade to help celebrate a 4-year-old’s birthday.
• Twice visited a Cataract Lane residence, once to deal with a false report that a woman who police said was sleeping was feeling suicidal, and the second time to calm a dispute between the woman and her ex-boyfriend over the custody of their children.
On April 24:
• Spoke to a First Street resident who was uncomfortable that an acquaintance of her daughter, who was picking up belongings at the caller’s home, was carrying a concealed firearm. Police said to alert them of any issues.
• Accompanied Vergennes Area Rescue Squad to a Comfort Hill medical call.
