MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Jan. 27 helped the Vermont Department of Health locate two people who had recently had close contact with a COVID-positive individual.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Spoke with a local person on Jan. 26 who reported having been harassed on Facebook.
•  Investigated a report of “many” people entering the Maplefields store on Route 7 South without wearing masks on Jan. 26.
•  Were told that employees of a Maple Street business were allegedly not wearing masks on Jan. 26.
•  Received a report about a man allegedly trying to steal a can of beer from a North Pleasant Street store on Jan. 27.
•  Ordered two vehicles towed for being in violation of the town’s winter parking ban in the Main Street and Merchants Row area on Jan. 27.
•  Responded to a complaint about a loud party in the Valley View Drive neighborhood on Jan. 27.
•  Attempted to locate a man who had talked about harming himself on Jan. 28. It turned out the man wasn’t in Middlebury.
•  Investigated a two-vehicle crash, with minor injuries, at the intersection of Case and East Main streets on Jan. 28.
•  Assisted a local woman who was having a reaction to new medication and needed to be taken to Porter Hospital for a mental health evaluation on Jan. 29.
•  Responded to a domestic dispute in the Court Street area on Jan. 29.
•  Received a report on Jan. 29 from a local resident about an alleged sexual assault occurring “some years ago.”
•  Helped a motorist who had driven into a ditch off Foote Street on Jan. 30.
•  Responded to a report on Jan. 31 of a man allegedly walking on Main Street in violation of his conditions of release.
•  Helped staff at the Charter House Coalition’s warming shelter calm an angry guest who had refused to abide by the facility’s COVID-19 restrictions on Jan. 31.
•  Cited Melissa Kelly, 39, of Rutland for driving with a criminally suspended license on Court Street on Jan. 31.
•  Assisted Middlebury firefighters in searching for a transformer explosion in the Seymour Street area on Feb. 1.
