VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of incidents between Dec. 21 and 27, including a truck accident, commercial vehicle enforcement, a welfare check, a lost wallet, an attempted suicide on Christmas Day, and resolving a domestic dispute.
During those seven days, the Vergennes Police Department conducted 18 motorized patrols and one foot patrol. Officers also:
On Dec. 21 went to Valley Vista on Alden Place to help center staff with a female client who they were told had showed up at the facility intoxicated and combative. Police said she had calmed by the time they arrived and had agreed to go to Porter Hospital for treatment.
On Dec. 22 
•  Attempted to contact a vehicle reported for erratic operation on Monkton Road but were unable to do so.
•  Investigated an accident on Main Street in which a commercial vehicle struck driveway guard rails and caused what police said was “significant damage,” and then left the scene. Police said they were able to ID the vehicle’s owner and driver and obtain information.
On Dec. 23:
•  Attended a commercial vehicle enforcement checkpoint on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh and conducted four inspections.
•  Responded to a request to check the welfare of a Walker Avenue resident, who was determined to be in good health.
On Dec. 24 accepted a wallet found on Main Street and returned it to the owner.
On Dec. 25 went to Fort Cassin Road in Ferrisburgh to assist other agencies after a report of a resident who was attempting suicide by carbon monoxide. Police said the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad took him to Porter Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
On Dec. 26 assisted the Addison County Superior Court’s Criminal Division in expunging six criminal cases.
On Dec. 27:
•  Got a tip of a suspicious vehicle on Panton Road possibly linked to burglaries in the Addison area and forwarded the information to the Vermont State Police.
•  Went to an Armory Lane apartment to calm a dispute between a man and a woman about retrieving personal belongings. Police said the man had caused minor injury to her as he tried to force his way into the apartment to retrieve items, but she refused to give a written statement. Police told her how to get help from WomenSafe and the Addison Family Court, brokered an agreement between the parties to exchange personal items, and issued a no-trespass order to the man.
