VERGENNES — Between Oct. 19 and 25 Vergennes police handled a variety of calls, including aiding Vermont State Police reunite a missing juvenile with his parents and dealing with a possibly impaired driver, serving an abuse-prevention order, and responding to another complaint of a stolen yard sign. 
During those seven days, the Vergennes Police Department conducted 21 motorized directed patrols, a foot patrol and a property watch, and also:
On Oct. 19: 
•  While conducting a nighttime directed patrol in Maple Manor noticed an open trunk on a car parked in a driveway. The police officer checked the car, closed the trunk and left a card for the owner.
•  Assisted Vergennes Public Works by contacting the owner of a pontoon boat that had been moored at the city docks for an extended period.
On Oct. 20: 
•  Attempted to find an older model pickup truck that had been spinning its tires at the intersection of Main Street and Monkton Road, but could not locate it.
•  Issued an abuse-prevention order to a Main Street resident.
•  Responded to Route 7 on behalf of the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad to deal with a vehicle following too closely to a rescue vehicle.
On Oct. 21: 
•  Went to Lake Shore Road in Salisbury to help state police find the parents of a missing child. The child and his parents were reunited.
•  Responded to the theft of a Black Lives Matter sign from a Green Street residence. Police said they stepped up patrols in the area.
On Oct. 23: 
•  Sent the department Drug Recognition Expert to help Vermont State Police evaluate a driver suspected of driving while impaired.
•  Helped a motorist enter a locked vehicle on Comfort Hill.
•  Took a report from state police that a Vergennes Union High School student had been threatened. Police said the incident did not take place in Vergennes or on school grounds.
•  Dealt with a barking dog complaint from near the Riverside Apartments on Main Street. Police did not find barking dogs, but spoke to a dog owner in an apartment and asked her to be mindful of her dogs if they were barking.
On Oct. 24 helped state police by responding to a car accident on Little Chicago Road in Ferrisburgh (See Vermont State Police Log in this edition).
On Oct. 25: 
•  Found two unlocked business on Main Street while conducting checks and secured the businesses when keyholders could not be reached.   
•  Investigated a report of broken glass on a door at the Masonic Temple building on School Street. Police believe the glass might have been broken accidentally by a maintenance crew because there was no sign of forced entry or vandalism.
