VERGENNES — Alerts from citizens enabled Vergennes police to twice issue citations to impaired drivers last week.
On Sept. 3 just before 10 p.m., a caller told police someone was driving erratically through neighborhoods south of Main Street, at one point allegedly traveling in the opposite lane. 
Police said they stopped a vehicle being driven by Scott Bissonette, 25, of Vergennes on Spring Street. After he allegedly failed roadside testing and registered 0.216 on a roadside breathalyzer test, police cited him for driving under the influence of alcohol. The legal blood alcohol limit for driving is 0.08.
At about noon on Sept. 1 Vergennes police received a tip about erratic driving and stopped Dennis M. Piazza, 41, of Middlebury on Main Street. Police evaluated Piazza and alleged he was under the influence of drugs and cited him for DUI-drugs.
Between Aug. 24 and Sept. 6 Vergennes police also conducted 30 motorized patrols, five property watches and four foot patrols, and also:
On Aug. 24:
•  Determined a Monkton Road trespassing complaint was unfounded.
•  Near the intersection of Routes 7 and 22A, issued a truck driver a $6,400 ticket for operating an overweight vehicle and a $220 ticket for lacking a permit.
•  Helped a Walker Avenue resident block unwanted phone calls.
On Aug. 25: 
•  Stopped a driver for speeding on West Main Street and drove the occupant to her destination in Vergennes because she was under the influence of drugs; police said she did pass a roadside sobriety test, but they wanted to be careful.
•  Conducted a background check on behalf of the U.S. Army.
•  Aided U.S. Marshalls while they made an arrest at the Valley Vista facility at 1 Alden Place.
On Aug. 26 issued a no-trespass order on behalf of the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad (VARS) to a former employee.
On Aug. 27:
•  Responded to a complaint of music, banging and yelling in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot, but found nothing.
•  Looked into a complaint of smoke at a Green Street business and determined it was the result of city sewer-line testing.
On Aug. 28:
•  Helped VARS on Green Street, where there was an injury when an ATV rolled over on private property.
•  Calmed arguing Creekview Apartments neighbors on Hillside Drive; police said one threatened the other for reporting illegal burning. 
•  Helped a Walker Avenue resident get into a locked apartment.
On Aug. 29:
•  Took a report of a possible violation of a relief-from-abuse order from a Walker Avenue resident.
•  Responded to a Green Street home after being told by the homeowner that he caught someone trying to steal staging from his yard; police said the thief had run off, and they couldn’t find him. 
On Aug. 30 spoke to a woman reported to be sitting at a Collins Aerospace picnic table who said she was upset after a family dispute; she returned to her nearby home after speaking with police.
On Aug. 31: 
•  Contacted the owner of the New Haven Road car wash after a customer had trouble with a credit card transaction.
•  Responded to a Creekview Apartment resident’s complaints of a neighbor’s alleged drug use and theft of items from an apartment. Police said the complaints were unfounded.
•  Were told that $15 of coins had been stolen from an unlocked car in an unlocked Adele Drive garage.
On Sept. 3:
•  Dealt with a dog running loose on West Main Street that allegedly bit two people. Police cited the owner for letting the dog run at large and ordered the dog quarantined for 10 days at its home. 
•  Responded to a complaint of youths riding ATVs on Commodore drive, but found nothing on arrival.
•  Helped deal with cows running loose on Comfort Hill. 
On Sept. 5: 
•  Helped Addison County Superior Court by expunging records.
•  Following an alert, spoke to a drunken woman walking along First Street and yelling into a telephone. She agreed to go home and quiet down. 
•  Helped state police and rescue personnel on Hawkins Road in Ferrisburgh at the scene of an ATV accident with injuries. Vergennes police helped move victims. 
On Sept. 6:
•  Responded to the Ferrisburgh Jiffy Mart on behalf of state police to deal with a report of a woman either on drugs, experiencing a mental health crisis, or both. She was gone when police arrived. 
•  Responded along with rescue personnel to a family fight on Sunset Drive that police said started with a dispute over a remote control. Police said a mother and daughter appeared to be the main combatants and there were minor injuries, but those involved refused to give statements or accept medical treatment.
