Middlebury Police Log: Driver stops to yell at Black Lives Matter sign

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Aug. 24 investigated a report of a man stopping his silver pickup truck in front of a Shannon Street home and allegedly “swearing and yelling” at a woman for having a Black Lives Matter sign posted in her yard.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Responded, with Middlebury Regional Emergency Medical Services (MREMS), to a report of a drug overdose at the South Village Green apartments on Aug. 24. Police said the patient was taken to Porter Hospital.
•  Received a report about a man allegedly sexually touching himself while looking at women’s underwear at a Court Street Extension store on Aug. 24. Police are gathering security footage in an effort to find the suspect.
•  Helped MREMS with an “extremely intoxicated” 29-year-old man described in the North Pleasant Street area on Aug. 24.
•  Responded to a complaint about people allegedly drinking alcohol in their vehicles while parked in The Centre shopping complex lot on Aug. 24. Police checked with people in several cars, but found no alcohol consumption.
•  Investigated an. Aug. 24 report of a woman running out of the South Village Green apartment complex yelling for help. Police said they couldn’t find the woman in question.
•  Referred a Cedar Court resident to mental health services on Aug. 25.
•  Investigated a theft complaint at an Exchange Street business on Aug. 25.
•  Opened an investigation on Aug. 25 into an alleged sexual assault reported 35 years after the incident by a former Middlebury resident who now lives in Florida.
•  Received a complaint on Aug. 25 about workers at a Route 7 South business allegedly not wearing face coverings.
•  Helped a man retrieve his belongings on Aug. 26 from a Halladay Road apartment from which he had been barred.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on Aug. 26 on a person not wanted at a North Pleasant Street residence.
•  Were informed on Aug. 27 that a Black Lives Matter sign had been stolen from a Halpin Road property.
•  Responded to a report of a child left in a parked car off Maple Street on Aug. 27.
•  Responded to a theft complaint in the Court Street area on Aug. 28.
•  Assisted MREMS on Aug. 28 with a person believed to have been suicidal. Police and medical officials determined the woman was not a threat to herself.
•  Assisted a person who was having a mental health crisis on South Pleasant Street on Aug. 28.
•  Responded to a report of a man having a medical emergency at a Peterson Terrace home on Aug. 29.
•  Ticketed a juvenile for being a minor in possession of marijuana at the Hannaford Supermarket on Court Street Extension on Aug. 29.
•  Assisted Vermont State Police with a drunk driving-related stop on Route 74 in Cornwall on Aug. 29.
•  Received a report on Aug. 30 that someone had knocked down construction signs that had been posted at the intersection of Cross an South Pleasant streets.
•  Assisted an elderly, intoxicated woman in the Twin Circles neighborhood on Aug. 30. Police said MREMS took the woman to the Porter Hospital Emergency Department.
