VERGENNES — On Aug. 20 Vergennes police responded to a burglary and damage to equipment at the New Haven Road Laundromat and car wash.
Police said an unknown person or persons forced entry into the building, damaged washing machines and a coin change machine, and stole coins.
Police said the business management could not say exactly how much money was stolen, and that they are still investigating the crime.  
Between Aug. 17 and 23 Vergennes police also conducted 14 motorized and two foot patrols and two property watches, and also: 
On Aug. 18: 
•  Responded to a 1 a.m. accident on Main Street in which police said the driver fell asleep and the vehicle went off the road and into a ditch. The driver and two passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to UVM Medical Center in Burlington or Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
•  Helped a resident get into a locked vehicle on Main Street.
•  Went to Route 17 in Addison to help Vermont State Police, who were tied up elsewhere, with a report of road rage in which a driver allegedly tailgated and passed another vehicle, and then stopped, got out of his vehicle and displayed a pistol and threatened to kill the occupants of the car behind him. According to witnesses, the driver got back in his vehicle and drove off. VSP returned but police could not find the offending driver. 
On Aug. 19:
•  At a Main Street traffic stop cited James M. Benway, 37, of Addison for driving with a criminally suspended license. 
On Aug. 20:
•  Went to a High Street residence to check in on a mother and son who had been in a verbal altercation; both parties were determined to be fine.
•  Handled a minor one-vehicle crash in the Collins Aerospace parking lot. 
On Aug. 21: 
•  Officer began investigated a complaint that a package of batteries had been stolen from the Kinney Drug Store on Monkton Road. 
•  Responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a shopping cart cage in the parking lot of Shaw’s Supermarket; the vehicle was gone when police arrived.
•  At the police station explained to a citizen a No Trespass Order on a Main Street residence.
On Aug. 22: 
•  After a report of threatening phone calls being made from one Main Street family member to another, told the originator of the calls not to contact the other party; police also provided information to the complainant on how to file for an abuse-prevention order.
•  Assisted Bristol police with the impairment evaluation of a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs.
•  Responded to a request for assistance from the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a residence on Hillside Drive, but the request was canceled prior to arrival.
