Bank treats Middlebury bridge workers to lunch

NATIONAL BANK OF MIDDLEBURY President Caroline Carpenter chats with Middlebury Bridge and Rail Project workers at a hot dog lunch the bank hosted behind its main office on Aug. 25.

MIDDLEBURY — National Bank of Middlebury thanked and celebrated the Middlebury Bridge and Rail Project crew with a hot dog lunch on Tuesday, Aug. 25. More than 60 downtown workers on the “big dig” were treated to a hot dog lunch, potato salad, beverage and homemade cookies.
NBM wanted to say thank you for the extraordinary work the crews all do in all kinds of weather. It has been a hot summer, and they are out there long days and through the night working to keep the downtown project on its aggressive schedule, which looks to wrap up Sept. 21.
Joel Bouvier of the bank’s Facilities group and liaison to the tunnel crew said, “These work crews have been at the center of attention, and they patiently answer questions from little children and curious adults as well as point out directions to confused walkers all with a smile.”
Angela Rheaume Customer Service Representative Supervisor at the bank’s main office often supports the group with her homemade cookies, and along with others volunteered to serve lunch, extending her workday to make sure the night crew was included and got an early evening treat when they clocked in.
Also enjoying the lunch break was Community Liaison Jim Gish along with his grandson George Gish. Gish has kept citizens not only informed but educated on the complexity of the project. “Many of the construction crew have been working in Middlebury since summer 2017,” he said. “Working 12-hour shifts, they often spend more time here than with their own families in their own homes. So, I know how much they appreciate the many ways in which the National Bank and the community at large have welcomed them to our home.”
