MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to Shaw’s Supermarket on June 28 on a report of a verbal altercation between two couples. 
Police said criminal charges are being considered in this case.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Received a report about a man allegedly pointing a gun at a woman and trying to push her into a car, in the parking lot off Mary Hogan Drive during the evening of June 22. Police said the man didn’t have a gun and was the caregiver for the woman in question. A follow-up article on this incident appears in this edition of the Independent.
•  Responded, with the local dog warden, to the Jackson Lane neighborhood on a report of an “aggressive dog that got loose” on June 22. Police said the dog owner retrieved the animal.
•  Checked the welfare of a local woman who had been considering self-harm on June 22.
•  Received a report on June 22 of spray-painted graffiti on a South Main Street building.
•  Received a report about a person making fraudulent deposits at a local bank on June 22. The case remains under investigation.
•  Located, and took into custody, a man who was wanted by the Newport Police Department on June 22.
•  Warned a man who had been trespassing on a Water Street property on June 23.
•  Assisted a local woman with a landlord/tenant issue on June 23.
•  Responded to a complaint of loud music at a Burnham Drive home on June 23.
•  Helped Middlebury Regional Emergency Medical Services (MREMS) get into a Kings Row residence on June 23.
•  Asked a man who had been drinking alcohol to leave the Shaw’s Supermarket property, at the request of store officials, on June 24.
•  Responded to a report of a drunken woman “harassing people and asking for money” at the intersection of Bakery Lane and Main Street on June 24.
•  Cleared a box of nails that had spilled into the intersection of Court and Monroe streets on June 24.
•  Were asked to look for a child missing from the South Ridge Drive area on June 24. Police said the family found the child prior to their arrival.
•  Responded to a family disturbance at a Jackson Lane home on June 24. Police said it was a verbal argument.
•  Restored peace following a family argument at a Jayne Court home on June 24.
•  Returned, to Porter Medical Center, a patient who had been involuntarily committed to the hospital on June 25.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man on June 25.
•  Investigated the reported theft of a bicycle from the porch of a Weybridge Street home on June 25.
•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Jayne Court home on June 25.
•  Assisted MREMS with a medical case in the Mead Lane area on June 27.
•  Helped a Courtyard by Marriott guest who had been receiving harassing text messages on June 27.
