Middlebury Police Log: Police get man out of the road

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police looked into a report of a man walking in the middle of Route 7 South at around 10:40 p.m. on May 4. 
Police took the man — who is homeless — to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Responded to a report of an overdose patient at a Munson Road home on May 4. Police said the person was conscious and alert, and that Middlebury Regional EMS staff determined the patient didn’t need to be taken to the hospital.
•  Responded to a theft complaint in the Elm Street area on May 4.
•  Helped mediate a custody argument at a John Graham Court residence on May 4.
•  Investigated a report of a man drinking outside of Hannaford Supermarket on May 4. Police said the man left the area.
•  Responded to a report of a man laying on the ground in the r.k. Miles parking lot off Exchange Street on May 5. Police said the man — who was “slightly intoxicated” — returned to his home.
•  Fielded a complaint from a local man concerned about someone taking his photo while on Court Street on May 5.
•  Responded to a report about a man yelling at people outside of Hannaford Supermarket on May 5. Police asked the man to leave the area.
•  Responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into a telephone pole off Route 7 North on May 5. Police reported no injuries resulting from the accident.
•  Investigated a report of a “small pit fire” at an East Main Street property on May 6.
•  Assisted Middlebury firefighters with a brush fire off Lower Plains Road on May 7.
•  Received a report that someone had stolen a wallet from an unlocked car parked at a Buttolph Acres residence on May 7.
•  Investigated allegation that someone had stolen a prescription from a purse in the Court Square area on May 7.
•  Were informed someone had smashed the window of a vehicle while it was parked at the Means Woods pull-off on Seminary Street Extension on May 7. Nothing was reported stolen from vehicle, police said.
•  Searched in vain for a vehicle that was allegedly being driven erratically on Route 7 South on May 7.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a 13-year-old who had self-harmed and needed attention at Porter Hospital on May 8.
•  Responded to a report of a barking dog in the Washington Street neighborhood on May 8. Police found the dog’s owner, who took care of the issue.
•  Investigated a report of a fire off Quarry Road on May 8. Police said it turned out to be a small campfire.
•  Received a call on May 8 from a local resident indicating someone was violating the state’s social distancing rules.
•  Were informed that a vehicle had left the scene of an accident on Court Street Extension on May 8.
•  Were informed someone had taken a checkbook from an unlocked vehicle parked at a Buttolph Acres home on May 8.
•  Met with a woman on May 9 who had questions about reporting a sex assault.
•  Were informed that a vehicle had left the scene of an accident on Seminary Street Extension on May 10.
•  Investigated a report of packages being taken from an unlocked vehicle parked at a South Ridge Drive home on May 10.
•  Checked on the welfare of a South Pleasant Street resident on May 10. Police said the resident was OK.
