Middlebury Police Log: Police respond to child left alone in vehicle

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report of a child being left alone in a vehicle parked off Court Street Extension on Jan. 23.
Police said they spoke with the mother and notified the Vermont Department for Children & Families about the incident.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Mediated a family dispute over the custody of a child at a Monarch Court home on Jan. 20.
•  Issued a no-trespass order to a man for the Memorial Sports Center on Jan. 20.
•  Were asked to check the welfare of a Deerfield Lane resident on Jan. 20. Police said the person wasn’t there, but was located the next day in South Burlington.
•  Ticketed more vehicles found in violation of the town’s winter parking ban on College Street on Jan. 20.
•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Monarch Court home on Jan. 21.
•  Arrested Benjamin Emmons, 29, of Middlebury on an outstanding warrant on Jan. 21.
•  Ticketed several vehicles that were in violation of the town’s winter parking ban on College Street on Jan. 21.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a medical call at a Washington Street home on Jan. 22.
•  Received a report from a Court Street resident who alleged she’d been struck by a neighbor on Jan. 22. Police determined the caller had fabricated the story, and Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) officials are speaking with the caller.
•  Served a no-trespass order on Jan. 22 on a local woman who wasn’t wanted at a Court Street address.
•  Involved Addison County Unit for Special Investigations (ACUSI) on Jan. 22 in a possible, recent sexual assault involving a local individual.
•  Took into custody a man who had allegedly become aggressive, damaged furniture and fought with officers attempting to restrain him at the Frank Mahady Courthouse on Jan. 22. Police took the man into custody but had not cited him with a crime as of this writing.
•  Were informed of the possible theft of a package from a Case Street residence on Jan. 23.
•  Assisted CSAC officials with a home visit in the North Pleasant Street neighborhood on Jan. 23.
•  Received a report about a local child possibly being struck by a parent on Jan. 23. Police said the ACUSI is investigating.
•  Received a Jan. 23 report of a suspected shoplifting incident at the TJ Maxx store in The Centre shopping plaza on Jan. 23.
•  Cited Regina Fuller, 40, of Middlebury for violating a no-stalking order on Jan. 23.
•  Helped a local woman who on Jan. 24 reported having been a victim of theft and fraud in Lake George, N.Y.
•  Responded to a report of a barking dog in the Court Street neighborhood on Jan. 24. Police said the owner brought the dog inside.
•  Ticketed vehicles that were in violation of the town’s winter parking ban on College Street on Jan. 24.
•  Received a report that someone had tried to use a fake ID card to buy alcohol at a Court Street Extension store on Jan. 25.
•  Responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a Methodist Lane home on Jan. 25. Police said no physical violence had occurred.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS at a Munson Road home where someone needed medical attention on Jan. 25.
•  Investigated a reported theft from Mike’s Auto on Elm Street on Jan. 25.
•  Took into custody on Jan. 26 a local man for whom mental health officials had issued a warrant for an immediate examination. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital to meet with CSAC officials.
•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS officials access a South Village Green apartment to deliver medical aid on Jan. 26.
•  Helped Mary Hogan Elementary School officials track down a student who had left the campus without permission on Jan. 27.
