Tiger boys’ hoop splits games

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball team split a pair of games late last week and stood at 5-4 entering play this week.
On Wednesday undefeated Fair Haven outlasted the Tigers, 44-41. In a back-and-forth game, the Tigers took a three-point lead entering the fourth period after a 26-26 halftime tie, but the 10-0 Slaters earned the six-point edge in the fourth.
Kohlby Murray (13 points) led Fair Haven, followed by Joey Gannon with 11.
Mason Kaufmann and Tyler Buxton paced the Tigers with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
On Friday the Tigers avenged an earlier loss at Colchester by rallying for a 52-43 victory at home. MUHS trailed by 32-28 entering the fourth quarter before scoring 24 points in the final eight minutes. Buxton scored nine of his game-high 18 points in the final period to help spark the comeback. Mike de Arana led the Lakers with 17 points.
