KILLINGTON — From Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, some of the top ski racers in the world will head to Vermont to compete at the HomeLight Killington Cup, a stop on the FIS Ski Women’s World Cup tour. In 2018, the event drew 39,000 spectators and Killington Mountain Resort anticipates that this year’s event will bring millions of dollars of economic impact to the state of Vermont.
Action kicks off on Friday, with athletes being awarded their bibs for the giant slalom at 5:45 p.m. The first run for the giant slalom will commence at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, with the second run at 1 p.m. Vermont singing legend Grace Potter takes to the stage slopeside for a free concert at 2 p.m.
Racers will compete in the slalom on Sunday, with the first run starting at 9:45 a.m. At noon, the band Twiddle will play a free concert, followed by the second slalom run at 1 p.m. General admission is free to the public.
Ripton native and U.S. Ski Team member Abi Jewett will not race this weekend due to injury.
University of Vermont junior Paula Moltzan, originally from Minnesota, is expected to compete at this year’s Killington World Cup. Moltzan was an NCAA First Team All-American in slalom in 2017 and 2018 and in GS in 2018. As of press time, the start lists for the event had not yet been announced.
U.S. Ski A Team member and two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin is also expected to compete. On Nov. 23, Shiffrin became the skier with the most career World Cup slalom wins. As of press time, the 24-year-old had 41 career World Cup slalom wins. Swedish skier Ingemar Bergman previously held the record for over three decades.
