Middlebury College skiers fare well at their own winter carnival

The Middlebury College ski team finished third in this past Friday and Saturday’s Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association championships, which were held at the Middlebury College Snowbowl and Rikert Outdoor Center in conjunction with the college’s winter carnival. 

Back in the 20th century Middlebury Union High School was a power in Vermont alpine skiing. Between 1994 and 1998 the Tiger girls’ and boys’ teams combined for three Vermont titles, three second-place finishes, and five thirds.

The combined Middlebury College alpine and Nordic ski team finished third this past weekend at the Colby Carnival with 729 points, trailing only Dartmouth with 912.5 points and Vermont with 783 points.

As the Middlebury Snowbowl prepares for opening day this Saturday, Dec. 9, loyal skiers and riders are excited to take advantage of several new amenities.

The Middlebury College ski team finished fourth at the Eastern championship on Feb. 24 and 25 with 688 points.

This weekend is the 100th Middlebury Winter Carnival and I find myself absorbed, perhaps ironically given the above, by Middlebury ski history and culture.

Panther hoop teams get ready for home playoff games, Middlebury skiers race at Dartmouth, women’s hockey still on top.

Contending with a warmish start to the ski season and staff shortages (like nearly every other business), the Middlebury College Snow Bowl still has seen a good early season with a jump in the number of guests.

The rivalry between Vermont-schooled Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin and Slovakia’s Petra Vhlova continues to be strong with the two superstar ski racers vying for the top spot on the Slalom podium.
