ADDISON COUNTY — In final regular-season high school boys’ soccer action late last week, Vergennes picked up a pair of wins to make a move in the Division III standings, Mount Abraham won a home game to keep its hopes alive of a first-round D-II home game, Middlebury lost on the road, and Otter Valley dropped a road game.
Mount Abe also hosted MUHS on Saturday morning; see story.
The Independent will update its Scoreboard/Schedule at addisonindependent.com when playoff pairings are made official on Monday. First-round games will be played on Tuesday or Wednesday.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday the Commodores scored five times in the first half in a 6-0 win over visiting Fair Haven. Jonathan Willis led the way with three goals and an assist, Josias Salomao had a goal and an assist, and Shamus Rooney and Jonah Mahé added a goal apiece. VUHS goalie Jeffrey Stearns stopped four shots, and Kole Matta made 12 saves for the 4-10 Slaters.
On Saturday VUHS blanked visiting Spaulding, 4-0. Scoring came from Willis (goal, two assists), Salomao and Avery Husk (goal and an assist apiece), and Tucker Stearns (goal). Jeffrey Stearns made six saves.
The Commodores’ third straight win moved them to 6-7-1, good for the No. 5 seed in Division III. Randolph (1-12-1) looks to be their first-round foe.
EAGLES
The Eagles received two goals and two assists from Eric McKean in a 4-0 win over visiting Green Mountain Valley on Wednesday. Branden Reynolds added a goal and an assist, and Eli Burgess also scored. Eagle goalie Ethan DeWitt made three saves.
The Eagles improved to 8-3-2, but needed a positive result vs. MUHS on Saturday to earn a home playoff game.
TIGERS
On Wednesday host Milton (10-2-1) topped the Tigers, 3-1. The Tigers got a goal from Eben Jackson as they dropped to 10-3 with their first D-II loss of the fall. The Tigers remained in position to clinch the No. 2 seed in D-II if they got past the host Eagles on Saturday.
OTTERS
The Otters lost to Hartford, 3-1, on Saturday night, to finish 2-12. Details were not immediately available. A first-round date with No. 4 Green Mountain Union looms.
