Porter wins grant to offer free cooking classes
MIDDLEBURY — RiseVT has awarded The Blueprint for Health, in partnership with Porter Hospital, a $1000 grant to offer free cooking classes as part of the Blueprint’s Diabetes Prevention Program. The cooking classes will take place once per month for 12 months immediately following the one-hour-long Diabetes Prevention class. The cooking class will be led by Hannaford Career Center’s Culinary Arts Instructor Woody Danforth.
More than 1 in 3 people have a condition called prediabetes. This means their blood sugar levels are too high, but not yet high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program is a free program designed to help people diagnosed with prediabetes make small lifestyle changes.
The first week of class will begin on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Hannaford Career Center, on Charles Avenue in Middlebury immediately following the Diabetes Prevention Program. Anyone interested in registering for the Diabetes Prevention Program may contact Courtney Thorn, Chronic Disease Programs Coordinator, at 388-8860 or [email protected]
