Letter to the editor: End of Life Services to move forward after change

On Oct. 3, End of Life Services, home of Hospice Volunteers, ARCH, Wellspring Singers, and bereavement care was surprised and saddened to receive a letter from Addison County Home Health & Hospice informing us that our partnership of 25 years was to end on Dec. 31 of this year. The Board of Directors of ACHHH has voted not to renew the contract with End of Life Services to provide Hospice Volunteers to serve their patients. After Jan. 1, 2020, End of Life Services’ highly trained and skilled volunteers will continue to provide compassionate care for our community, but without referrals from ACHHH.
End of Life Services wants the community to know that we are still here for you. Our mission is to support the dying and their loved ones, by training and placing volunteers with caring hands and hearts, sharing the transformational music of Wellspring Singers, and companioning those in grief. This will not change as the community need for end of life care is great. There is never too much compassion, and while we may not be partnering directly with ACHHH, it is possible for us to work alongside to ensure everyone who needs end of life care will be served.
For the next few months, we will be considering the ramifications for End of Life Services, Addison County Home Health & Hospice and the county we both serve. However, we will be doing so with the needs of the patients and the desires of the volunteers as top priorities. Many of you have touched the lives of End of Life Services staff and volunteers, and many of you have felt their gentle care as well. This profound connection has been a gift to the community. End of Life Services will work to see this connection never fades. Thank you.
