Middlebury Police Log: Maplefields burglarized
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a burglary at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street afterhours on Sept. 8.
Police said someone forced their way into the business through a door. Once inside, culprit(s) took what police described as “non-cash items.” Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Middlebury police at 388-3191.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Investigated a trespassing complaint at a Seminary Street home on Sept. 2.
• Warned two local 18-year-olds on Sept. 3 about the new state law that has raised the minimum age for possessing tobacco to 21.
• Got counseling help for a local woman who said she was experiencing a mental health crisis on Sept. 3.
• Responded to a report of a verbal confrontation between several individuals on the town green on Sept. 3. Police said one drunken individual involved in the case was released into the custody of a sober person.
• Investigated a possible child-abuse incident at a Woodbridge Lane home on Sept. 4.
• Assisted a Lower Foote Street resident who was having a problem with a juvenile on Sept. 4.
• Launched an investigation on Sept. 4 into allegations that a local woman was being harassed online.
• Responded on Sept. 4 to a report of a confrontational man at McDonald’s Restaurant on Route 7. Police said the man had calmed down upon their arrival.
• Safely disposed of a used syringe that had been found below the Seymour Street rail overpass on Sept. 4.
• Asked two people to leave the town gazebo at midnight on Sept. 4.
• Responded to a report of someone burning brush out of season in the Peterson Terrace area on Sept. 5. Police instead found a small campfire.
• Received a report about two people allegedly camping on private land off Three Mile Bridge Road on Sept. 5. Police said the duo packed up and left when asked to do so.
• Investigated a two-vehicle crash on Court Street in which one person sustained minor injuries on Sept. 5.
• Removed a deer carcass from Route 7 North on Sept. 5.
• Searched in vain on Sept. 5 for a man who had allegedly been looking onto the windows of cars and businesses off MacIntyre Lane.
• Received a report that a dump truck had accidentally dropped “a bunch of stone” onto East Main Street on Sept. 6. Police said the truck owner cleaned up the mess.
• Were informed someone had smashed the window of a vehicle parked off Freeman Way on Sept. 6.
• Investigated a report of a “loud verbal dispute” between a man and woman in the Armory Lane area on Sept. 6.
• Responded to a report of a woman sleeping in the National Bank of Middlebury ATM vestibule on Sept. 7. Police said the woman refused help and left the area.
• Responded to a domestic dispute at a High Street residence on Sept. 7. Police said no physical violence had taken place.
• Responded to a noise complaint in the Buttolph Drive area on Sept. 8.
• Quieted a loud Middlebury College student party at a South Main Street residence on Sept. 8.
• Investigated a report of a woman yelling in the Mainelli Road area on Sept. 8. Police said they couldn’t find the source of the noise.
• Were informed of the theft of a silver iPhone from an unlocked vehicle parked off Freeman Way on Sept. 8.
• Received a report that a single marijuana plant had been stolen from a Case Street residence on Sept. 8.
• Checked on the welfare of a homeless woman who had been sleeping outside of the Middlebury town offices at 77 Main St. on Sept. 8. Police directed the woman to appropriate services.
• Responded to a report of a loud college party in the College Street area a 12:23 a.m. in Sept. 8.
