Panther Coach Jeff Brown will step down in May

Jeff Brown, the most successful men’s basketball coach in Middlebury College’s history, will step down at the end of this academic year, Middlebury Director of Athletics Erin Quinn announced on Monday.

Second-seeded Colby College on Saturday knocked the No. 7 Middlebury College women’s basketball team out of the NESCAC playoffs, 100-97 in two overtimes, in a quarterfinal matchup.

The Middlebury College ski teams this past weekend were edged by unbeaten Dartmouth at the Middlebury Winter Carnival, 898-877.5. The University of Vermont rounded out the top three with 722.5 points.

With a big 2-1 overtime win over on Tuesday over longtime rival Plattsburgh following a split of two NESCAC home games with Bowdoin this past weekend, the Middlebury College women’s hockey team remains a force to be reckoned with in NCAA Division III.

The Middlebury College women’s basketball team this past Friday and Saturday claimed the championship of the four-team Ed Hockenberry Classic tournament hosted by Norwich University.

The Middlebury College women’s hockey team wrapped up its first-semester play on Dec. 4 with a 2-1 victory over visiting Utica. 

The Middlebury College men’s basketball team won once in three outings last week to end its first semester of play with a 6-2 record. 

The Middlebury College men’s hockey team dropped two NESCAC road games this past weekend to conclude its first semester of play at 4-4. The Panthers have won all four of their home games, but dropped all four of their road games. 

The best Middlebury College men’s soccer season in 17 years came to an end when Amherst defeated the Panthers, 2-1, an NCAA semifinal.

The Middlebury College men’s hockey team hosted and won the LayerEight Great Northern Shootout this past weekend, defeating rival Norwich in Saturday’s final, 2-0.

The Middlebury College field hockey team on Sunday in Lexington, Va., claimed its seventh straight NCAA Division III title with a 2-1 victory over NESCAC rival Tufts, a team that had defeated the Panthers on its home field during the regular season. 

The Middlebury College volleyball team won two NCAA Division III matches in a regional hosted by Juniata College in Pennsylvania late last week before falling to their top-ranked hosts in the third round, 3-0.

The Middlebury College men’s soccer team defeated Hunter and Vassar colleges this past weekend at an NCAA Division III Regional tournament on the Panthers’ South Street Field. The Panthers next will host three more schools in an NCAA sectional this weeken … (read more)
