OV wrestlers win their own tournament; VUHS nets titles

On the strength of second-place finishes in five weight classes, the Otter Valley Union High School wrestling team on Saturday took first place in its own tournament. 

Otter Valley broke through for its first win — at the expense of visiting Vergennes in overtime — to highlight recent local high school girls’ basketball action. 

Ultimately, Tuesday’s boys’ high school basketball game between host Vergennes Union and Otter Valley pivoted on a four-minute stretch of the fourth quarter. 

The Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ basketball team on Tuesday picked up its first win with a dominant performance in a 56-22 victory over visiting Otter Valley.

The 12-2-1 Tigers, unbeaten since Sept. 14, did not allow the Otters to win their second postseason game in 23 years.

No. 2 seed Fairfax-Lamoille pulled away in the second half on Saturday to defeat the visiting No. 7 Otter Valley football team, 18-6.

The host Otter Valley football team ran over winless Missisquoi on this past Saturday, 60-6.

Middlebury and the Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative high school football teams posted important regular season victories this past weekend, but Otter Valley came up short on the road.

The 2021 Division II champion Otter Valley boys’ golf team on Thursday, Oct. 6, qualified to defend its title by finishing second in the qualifying tournament on the Otters’ home course at Neshobe Golf Club. 

The host Otter Valley field hockey team struck for two first-quarter goals against visiting Middlebury on Friday and did enough the rest of way to earn a 3-0 victory. 

The Otter Valley football team broke open Saturday’s Division III game against Mount Abraham-Vergennes with a three-touchdown second quarter on the way to a big homecoming win, 46-25. The result left both teams at 2-2.
