Otter field hockey takes a tough loss

No. 2 seed U-32 held off a rally by the No. 3 Otter Valley field hockey team to prevail, 3-2, in a Division II field hockey semifinal on Wednesday played on St. Johnsbury’s turf field.

The No. 4 seed Otter Valley football team advanced to the Division III semifinal round this past Saturday with a big win over visiting No. 5 Mill River, 46-14.

The Otter Valley golf team came away with both the Division II individual and team hardware on Thursday in the high school championship tournament held at the Burlington Country Club.

Saturday’s high school football game saw momentum shifts between Otter Valley and the cooperative Mount Abraham-Vergennes team. It turned the host Eagles’ way in the second half, when MAV outscored the Otters, 18-0, to claim a 36-27 victory.

Despite some positive signs from visiting Otter Valley, Tuesday’s girls’ soccer game belonged to host Middlebury from the opening whistle in the Tigers’ 5-0 victory.

A championship golfer and a winning football team provided most of the highlights for Otter Valley Union High School athletics in the fall of 2023, and they appear poised to provide more success this autumn.

The Otter Valley field hockey team this past Saturday rolled to a 12-0 victory over host Springfield. 

Max Derby of Brandon is the valedictorian for the OV Class of 2024. Abigail Hayes of Goshen is the salutatorian for the OV Class of 2024.

The third vote was the charm when it came to an Otter Valley Unified Union School District spending plan.

Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union students from Devon Karpak’s woodworking class at Otter Valley Union Middle and High School crafted a new sign for the Brandon Police Department. They presented the sign to Chief of Police David Kachajian on June 5.

On paper Tuesday’s Division II first-round playoff game between the host No. 8 seed Middlebury Union High School baseball team and No. 9 Otter Valley looked like a close game. 

The Otter Valley Unified Union School District Board last week OK’d an updated spending plan for residents to vote on next month that trimmed a little more from the two budget proposals that failed this spring.

Voters in the Brandon area on Tuesday got a second chance to approve a fiscal year 2025 spending plan for the Otter Valley Unified Union schools. They said, no thank you.

The Otter Valley Union High School baseball team snapped a 4-4 tie with a four-run sixth inning on Monday to defeat visiting Leland & Grey. OV evened its record at 1-1 with the victory, while the Rebels dropped what was their opener.
