Local Audubon group gets us thinking about conservation

The Otter Creek Audubon next week will kick of its four-part Cabin Fever Lecture Series, which will feature local experts discussing birds and wildlife.

Rosemary Mosco, an author, illustrator and speaker whose work connects people with the natural world with humor, will be the featured speaker at the Otter Creek Audubon Society annual meeting.

The Otter Creek Audubon’s three-part Cabin Fever Lecture Series will continue with “It’s Easter and It’s Chilly!” on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Bixby Library in Vergennes.

Flock to the Bixby Library on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., for an evening with Mass Audubon Grassland Bird Biologist Hyla Howe.

As in other years, Otter Creek Audubon Society is offering Environmental Education Grants to Addison County educators.

Nature enthusiasts of all ages are invited to take part in a beginner’s bird walk through Wright Park, a segment of the Trail Around Middlebury.

The Otter Creek Audubon Society will host a talk and then a walk in Middlebury next week.

Otter Creek Audubon Society is announcing their annual $1,000 scholarship to the renowned Hog Island Audubon Camp, available to an Addison County educator or teen.

The award is presented to a person who has worked over many years on behalf of the preservation and appreciation of birds, other wildlife, and natural communities in Addison County. 

At Otter Creek Audubon Society’s annual meeting and lecture, Amy Weidensaul, Ph.D, senior regional director of Mass Audubon, will speak on “Protecting Nature for Birds and People: Opportunities, lessons and hope from the Massachusetts coast.”
