MUHS softball remains on a roll, topples Mt. Abe

The Middlebury Union High School softball team continued to roll on Tuesday, this time at the expense of host and defending Division II champion Mount Abraham. The Tigers won, 17-4, in six innings. 

While the majority of her career has been spent inside math classrooms at Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School, Carla Mayo has always sought to teach her students about much more than numbers.

The Mount Abraham Union High School baseball team just might be ready to make a move up in the Division II standings. 

In the wake of two failed budget votes, students in the Mount Abraham Unified School District are asking district officials to protect educators from potential cuts as they draft a third spending proposal to put before voters. 

Only Mount Abraham-Vergennes picked up a victory among local high school boys’ lacrosse  teams in recent play.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes boys’ lacrosse team opened its season with high hopes for a run at the Division III title — and with two home games against tough D-II competition, in both of which the Eagles came up short. 

The spring of 2023 overall treated Mount Abraham Union High School athletes pretty well, even considering a few glitches.

Tuesday’s first-round Division II opponent for the No. 6 Mount Abraham girls’ basketball team wasn’t just anyone — the 13-7 Eagles and No. 11 Spaulding, who came in 9-11 against a tough schedule, have a lot of recent history. 

There were good reasons to expect a competitive first-round Division II boys’ basketball playoff matchup on Tuesday between host No. 6 Otter Valley and No. 11. Mount Abraham.

Two trends continued, one of them happier than the other, when the Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball team shut down visiting Mount Abraham in the second half of Thursday’s game on the way to a 48-30 victory.

Probably even more so than usual, the two teams involved in the Friday, Dec. 29, boys’ basketball game at Mount Abraham Union High School viewed the result — a 54-39 win for the host Eagles over Otter Valley — through different lenses.
