Wins hard to come by for local boys’ basketball teams

The MUHS boys’ basketball team broke through on the win column this week in a home game vs. Otter Valley.

In local high school girls’ basketball, Middlebury and Vergennes were both double winners, but Mount Abe fell to one of its local rivals.

In limited recent local high school girls’ basketball play, Vergennes won big on the road, while Mount Abraham came up short for a second time against Fair Haven, but with a better effort.

Addison County boys’ basketball teams struggled late last week, as Vergennes dropped two home games and Middlebury and Mount Abraham each suffered road losses in their only outings.

Middlebury and Mount Abraham girls’ basketball teams suffered road losses last week, with the Tigers falling at Rutland and the Eagles losing to Burr and Burton in Fair Haven’s tournament.

Visiting Fair Haven buried the young Mount Abraham girls’ basketball team with an early barrage of three-pointers on Monday.

As usual, there was plenty of enthusiasm at the Bristol school this month to accompany the short run-up to the season, with practices starting on Dec. 1 and action starting for all the teams within two weeks.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ basketball team won at Vergennes on Friday, Dec. 12.

Vergennes was the only winner as the local high school boys’ basketball season got underway. Mount Abraham opened with a pair of setbacks, and Middlebury lost in overtime on the road. 

Mount Abe students will present “Anastasia” at the MAUHS Performing Arts Center Nov. 20-22.

The Mount Abraham and Middlebury union high school field hockey teams each split two games.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ cross-country team finished seventh among 15 scoring teams at this past Saturday’s U-32 Invitational, while the Tiger boys were 10th out of 17 scoring teams.
