Schools, housing, healthcare are Legislature’s top priorities

“I want to give folks an update on what might be on the legislative agenda, as well as share my perspective on the issues.”

“I hope to engage in thoughtful problem solving on the major issues we are facing.”

“A high-quality education for our children should be the top priority of any decent and hopeful society; yet we are in danger of losing the public’s confidence in our ability to achieve that goal at a reasonable cost.”

A lot has changed with H.454, Vermont’s major K-12 educational transformation bill, and it will be up for a vote on the Senate floor this week. Sen. Hardy will vote against it.

With leaves springing, we are on the homestretch of the 2025 legislative season. With a bit more balance in the legislature, we accomplished some good but need to do more to improve affordability and public safety.

New state reps from Addison-4 says he is honored to be one of the 29 Republicans and 23 Democrats in this year’s very large freshman class, clearly reflecting voters’ desire for change.

I want to encourage you by noting that the incoming class of new Vermont legislators is full of very competent and enthusiastic people from all across this great state.

We ended our work early at the Statehouse on Feb. 7 due to the huge snowstorm, but otherwise we’re just about one month into the 2020 Legislative Session and it’s been nonstop action! We’ve already sent several important bills to Gov. Scott for signature. … (read more)
