Panton man averts deportation after ICE check-in

Juan De La Cruz will be allowed to remain in Panton for at least another six months, when another mandated ICE check-in will occur.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to use a hub in Vermont to bolster its digital surveillance capabilities.

A Mexican national who has lived here for two decades and become a taxpayer will report to ICE on Tuesday for a check-in that could result in his deportation.

“Vermont must prepare now for a future with fewer federal dollars, greater economic uncertainty, and higher costs for workers and families.”

Back in the pandemic winter of 2020-2021 Panton’s David Clevenstine was looking to cool off from a case of cabin fever — not the COVID kind, but the variety resulting from being cooped up too long. 

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is advising the public to stay off the ice on Lake Champlain due to unsafe conditions, and to exercise caution on other bodies of water.
