County’s lone GOP state rep. to retire

Rep. Harvey Smith of New Haven told the Independent this week he’ll leave the House at the conclusion of this, his 10th two-year term, in order to spend more time with family.

As the lone Republican representing Addison County in Vermont’s legislature, Rep. Harvey Smith’s announcement this week that he will not seek re-election in November sparks a moment of political reflection.
