Two towns win historic preservation grants

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation and the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation recently announced grants totaling $357,207 to 22 municipalities and non-profit organizations in nine counties for the restoration and rehabilitation of Vermont landmarks and important historic buildings and structures. These grants will help support more than $1 million in restoration and rehabilitation efforts.

Michael Lee Tebbetts, 64, passed away Feb.12, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Leicester. He grew up in Leicester and Brandon, where he received his early education. Michael was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A large mural painted by 15 Otter Valley Union High School students under the tutelage of Brandon artist Doug Lazarus recently went on display in downtown Brandon.

The Brandon Museum has received an $8,000 grant from the Walter Cerf Community Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation.

“The Phantom of the Opera” (1925), the silent big screen adaptation of the classic thriller, will be shown with live music on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m., at the Brandon Town Hall and Community Center, Route 7, in Brandon.

Brandon is going to be in Festival Heaven at the beginning of October when the charming town between Middlebury and Rutland will host its annual harvest fair.

The Otter Creek Watershed Insect Control District Board of Trustees is looking to fill three leadership roles after a handful of former leaders recently resigned from their positions. 

Buster Keaton stars in “The Cameraman” (1928), a classic silent comedy to be screened with live music this Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m., at the Brandon Town Hall.

Celebrate Independence Day in Brandon with free events all day on Saturday, July 6. There will be the parade, contests, children’s activities, a beer garden, auctions, a street dance, fireworks and much more.

Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union students from Devon Karpak’s woodworking class at Otter Valley Union Middle and High School crafted a new sign for the Brandon Police Department. They presented the sign to Chief of Police David Kachajian on June 5.
