Local hoopsters honored by VBCA

ADDISON COUNTY — Eleven local high school basketball players, coaches and former coaches earned nods from the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association (VBCA) for their performances this year and over the course of their tenures. The MUHS girls’ and boys’ hockey teams, and the VUHS boys’ basketball team, exited state tournaments in the semifinal rounds.

The Commodores triumphed over Winooski for a third time this season. But the victory was their first playoff win against the team after post-season loses to the Spartans three times in the past four years.

Both the Tigers and Commodores basketball teams dropped semifinal games against the No. 1 seeds in Divisions II and III, respectively.

VUHS boys’ hoops lone local squad still in playoffs

The VUHS boys’ basketball, MUHS boys’ hockey and MUHS girls’ hockey teams all upset their way to playoff semifinal games this week.

Both MUHS and VUHS must defeat the number one seeds to earn spots in the finals.

All three local high school boys’ basketball teams are slated to begin their playoff bids this Wednesday, March 4.

The MUHS boys’ basketball team fared the best of any local squad this past week.

The Tiger and Commodore girls’ basketball teams won their first playoff games handily.

The Tigers ended the first quarter 20 points ahead of the Eagles, who previously defeated MUHS in January.
