UPDATED: ACSD picks principals for three schools

The Addison Central School District Board on Tuesday endorsed the hiring of three new principals to lead the Bridport, Cornwall and Shoreham elementary schools.

The Addison Central School District and its teachers’ union this week tentatively agreed to a new contract for educators that will, among other things, afford them base-pay increases of 6%, 5% and 3% during the next three academic years.

School district leaders have screened all the applicants for coming principal vacancies at three elementary schools; students, their families and school staff can meet the candidates this week.

Addison Central School District Interim Superintendent Tim Williams will cede his position to his successor a month earlier than anticipated.

Heather Raabe, principal of Cornwall’s Bingham Memorial Elementary School, has confirmed she’ll be stepping down at the end of this academic year.

Thanks to new software and reporting requirements, the Addison Central School District has, for the past seven months, been able to chart both minor and major K-12 student behavior incidents on its campuses. And the numbers aren’t pretty.

The Addison Central School District Board would like to extend its deep gratitude to the ACSD community for its support of the FY25 budget.

In all school districts, boards struggled with the double-digit rising costs of health insurance for their employees, general inflation and the loss of federal money started during the pandemic.

Despite usually approving school budgets without question, I must admit that, when I walked into the voting booth this Tuesday, my pen briefly hovered over the “no” oval for the 2025 ACSD budget.

Vermont’s very well-intentioned attempt to make education funding more equitable has created confusion for school boards, school officials and taxpayers.

After reviewing the impacts of the new Act 127 transition mechanism, our review confirms that we properly developed a budget that considered the negative impact of Act 127 while at the same time responding to the other FY25 financial challenges.
