Halloween spookiness

Oct 26, 2023 | Photos of the Week

THE OWNER OF this North Main Street home in Vergennes cleverly placed bats flying above the property. It’s part of a larger Halloween display that mysteriously appears every autumn. Independent photo/Steve James
HALLOWEEN REALLY BRINGS out the creative side of many people in Addison County. Our photographer captured a bit of the whimsy that went along with the scary edge that was on display in yards in Vergennes along Monkton Road and North Main Street. Independent photo/Steve James

TWO SKULLS ON a fence create an eerie atmosphere in this Vergennes yard in advance of Halloween. Trick or treating and other events will be happening from now through Oct. 31, so make sure to keep your eyes out for ghoulies and ghosties out enjoying the spooky festivities. MANY HOMEOWNERS AROUND the county, including those at this place on Monkton Road in Vergennes, got in the spirit of the season with Halloween displays that go from humorous to scary to bizarre to ridiculous. This one captures a bit of each and even includes a little wordplay on the sign. Independent photo/Steve James

GLASS WINDOWS HAVE not filled the sills in the old powerhouse on the north side of the Middlebury Falls for many generations, but the three holes in the decrepit structure do serve a purpose during this scary season as they appear to be the eyes and mouth of a face.
