MUHS freshman, two Mount Abe jumpers win state titles

Tiger Josephine Ives PR’d in her title-winning 1,500 meter run at the D-II state championships; Eagle juniors Jackson LaMarche & Truman Sawyer won field event crowns last week.

The team upset their way to the championship by defeating the No. 1 seed in the semifinals.

The local team dropped the Tuesday game to U-32 by a score of 16-13.

The Eagles and Commodores both dropped out of the state tournament in the quarterfinals.

Twenty-one Commodore athletes ran, hurdled and threw at the meet, setting a collective 21 personal bests across 12 running events and one throwing event, despite the hot and sunny weather.

MUHS defeated Colchester, 6-1, to earn a spot in the next round of playoffs.

The team is going into the quarterfinal round with a 4-10 record and two recent wins under their belts.

Established in 1997, its purpose is to “conserve, protect and enhance the abundance and diversity of native plant, fish and wildlife species and the ecosystem on which they depend throughout the 7.2 million acre Connecticut River watershed.”

MUHS ultimate teams wrapped up their seasons on Tuesday when they bowed out of the first round of their respective playoff tournaments.

Tiger girls’ tennis started post-season games on Wednesday. MUHS entered that match, against Montpelier, with an 8-4 record.
