Addison County Sheriff’s Log: No major incidents for the sheriff this week

Deputies with the Addison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call to check on a cow that appeared to be in distress on Arnold Bay Road in Panton on Feb. 6.

Vergennes police assisted people experiencing mental health crises.

Vermont State Police this week cited two Bridport men into court to answer charges that they each had sexually assaulted a juvenile in Orwell.

Middlebury police cited Drew T. Raymond, 19, of East Middlebury for possession of a stolen vehicle and for possession of a regulated drug,

First responders located Howard Doyle, 45, of Rochester dead in a vehicle near the scene of a reported incident off Bettis Road. Apparently this incident arose from a dispute involving individuals who knew each other.

Christopher Rantanen, 40, of Brandon, was sentenced to a term of 35 months’ imprisonment. He previously pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Middlebury police cited Eric M. Sumner, 20, for suspicion of driving under the influence.

This past Friday, Jan. 30, Vermont State Police received a late report of an assault that occurred on Lincoln Road near the intersection with Route 116 in Bristol.

A garbage truck slid off the road and rolled onto its side in Vergennes last week. Nobody was injured.

Bristol police have dealt with a couple of motor vehicle incidents in recent weeks.

A deputy in the Addison County Sheriff’s Department checked on a person who had been reported to be walking on Route 22A in Orwell for an extended period.

On Jan. 19, officers arrested Ferrisburgh resident John Cunningham, 52, and cited him for possession of crack cocaine. On Jan. 20, they discovered crack cocaine in a woman’s vehicle.

A Cornwall man was jailed without bail this past Saturday after Vermont State Police were called to an active assault at a home on Route 7 in Salisbury.

Police cited Timothy Taylor, 59, of Bristol for driving with an ignition interlock device, which prevents drivers from operating a vehicle if they’ve been drinking.

Addison County Sheriff Michael Elmore reported a quiet week of standard public service by his deputies and himself.
