Students earn spots at All State Music Festival

MIDDLEBURY — After digital auditions this winter due to restrictions from the pandemic, 18 Middlebury Union High School musicians were accepted to the 2021 All State Music Festival. MUHS had eight out of the only 12 statewide musicians accepted into the Vermont All State Jazz Ensemble, attesting to their talent and that of their teacher, Anne Severy. This is the most students from any school ever to be accepted into this ensemble in the 98-year history of the festival. The student musicians, led by music educators Liz LeBeau (vocal) and Severy (instrumental), include:

Vermont All State Music Festival Concert Choir: Mary Johnson, alto; Astrid Olson, soprano; Chelsea Robinson, soprano; Abigail Sunderland, soprano; and Kaya Wright, alto.

Vermont All State Music Festival Concert Band: Stella Andrews, tenor saxophone; Melody Berenbaum, clarinet; Nell Brayton, flute; Caleb Burrows, trumpet; Zachariah Burrows, flute; Dahlia Harrison-Irwin, bassoon; Ben Munkres, French Horn; and Zachary Nevins, trombone.

Vermont All State Music Festival Jazz Ensemble: Caleb Burrows, trumpet; Zachariah Burrows, piano; Baxter Harrington, alto saxophone; Amanda Kearns, trumpet; Nathaniel McVeigh, tenor saxophone; Zachary Nevins, trombone; Kai Pasciak, bass; and Konan Pasciak, drums.

Vermont All State Music Festival Scholarship Recipient: Zachariah Burrows, composition; and Zachariah Burrows, piano.
