As a child growing up in Vermont I gave my parents ample opportunity to teach me  life lessons. To this day I carry with me much of what I learned. Recently I had the chance to relive one of those lessons. The lesson being, “how to take the measure of a man.” The answer, watch his actions when he doesn’t think people are looking.
About a month ago I took the measure of two people and I found them to be sorely lacking. On a busy Saturday afternoon Diane Lanpher and John Spencer parked their vehicles on main street in Vergennes in order to canvas the area for votes. Despite signs clearly stating a 2 hour maximum for parking  the vehicles stayed where they were for over 5 hours. In John’s case his car was parked directly in front of the door to the business at which I work. Both Diane and John claim to support small business in Vermont. Their actions though do not back up their words
I’m sure some will pass this off as being much ado about nothing. I prefer to remember another of my parent’s lessons “the little things do matter.”
