David Zuckerman deserves our strong support in the race for lieutenant governor. He has been a strong advocate on environmental issues, health care for all, economic justice and criminal justice reform. As a working farmer, he also appreciates the distinct needs of our rural economy. He has served as a state representative and then a state senator for a total of eighteen years.
On health care, David Zuckerman understands that rather than abandon our ultimate goal of health care as a guaranteed publicly financed good for all Vermonters, we can get there in stages. He has embraced a plan for publicly financed universal primary care, instead of financing through premiums. This would make universal primary care accessible with no out of pocket cost to all Vermonters. It is a low cost measure, and yet all studies show that primary care is the single most effective measure in improving population health. He should be applauded for thinking of a way forward and not dropping the ball on this important issue.
As a state legislator, David Zuckerman has already shown his effectiveness. He has played prominent roles in legalizing medical marijuana, the GMO labeling law and is committed to legalizing marijuana. He has played a leading role in a number of committees, including chairing House Agriculture. David Zuckerman is the right choice for lieutenant governor and deserves our support in the Democratic primary on Aug. 9.
