Opinion: Article explored important issue
I’m writing about the article that was published in the Monday, Aug. 1, edition of the Independent called “Transportation proves difficult for disabled.”
I work for the state of Vermont for Voc Rehab and have worked with clients with disabilities for 15 years plus. I really appreciate that your publication chose to highlight an issue that is pivotal to many Vermonters with disabilities in the Middlebury area.
The transportation issue is huge in Middlebury and the surrounding area for hundred of clients that staff and myself have worked with over the years. Many Vermonters with disabilities live in rural areas and are socially isolated because of transportation barriers.
I am hoping that bringing this to the attention of our communities and the ADA will help to facilitate forward movement around improving transportation options for people with disabilities in Vermont.
